DC Comics has released Batman/Superman/Weird Al: World's Weirdest #1, a 40-page one-shot pairing the World's Finest with musical parodist "Weird Al" Yankovic, written by Mark Waid with art by Dan Schoening. The premise leans all the way into the absurd: a crisis in the fifth dimension starts turning everything mundane, and when Mr. Mxyzptlk drags Superman and Batman into fixing it, Earth gets hit with the same affliction. Naturally, the only person equipped to save reality from terminal normalcy is Weird Al himself.

It's a strange pairing on paper, but Waid and Schoening have built careers on exactly this kind of tonal whiplash — sincere superhero storytelling filtered through genuine goofiness — and DC is billing the crossover as a celebration of embracing the wonderfully unusual rather than a straight parody issue. The book hit shelves September 2, and early reviews have leaned into just how far the creative team commits to the bit.

One-shots like this rarely move the needle on ongoing continuity, but they tend to be sleeper hits at retail precisely because nobody sees them coming — a full-length Weird Al/Batman/Superman team-up isn't the kind of book that gets reprinted casually.
