Storm Assembles Maximum X-Men to Fill the Void Left by the Avengers

With the Avengers left in ruins after Avengers: Armageddon, Marvel is handing the world's next line of defense over to the X-Men. Maximum X-Men #1, launching December 2 from writer Christopher Yost and artist Tony S. Daniel, has Storm pulling together an elite mutant strike team built for Avengers-level threats: Wolverine, Colossus, Bishop, Iceman, Psylocke, Firestar, and Justice. Their first job is stopping a full-on Annihilation Wave incursion before it swallows Earth.

Yost has been describing the book as leaning hard into "a classic Claremont vibe" — big adventure and soap opera in equal measure, with a roster of "real people with character put into positions where they had to be heroes." That framing extends to Storm's leadership specifically, with Yost pointing to her confidence and benevolence as the throughline for a team he says is united by looking for hope above all else. It's a notable moment for the X-line to headline Marvel's flagship Avengers-tier spot, especially with the wider Marvel Universe still adjusting to mutants in the wake of Armageddon.

Marvel unveiled a full slate of covers alongside the preview pages, including a Tony S. Daniel main cover, a Simone Di Meo character variant, and additional variants from Ivan Talavera, Chris Samnee, Ken Lashley, and David Nakayama. Maximum X-Men #1 hits shelves December 2.
