ReedPop Is Shutting Down Popverse, Pulling the Plug on a Major NYCC Media Partner

Popverse, the pop culture and comics news site run by New York Comic Con parent company ReedPop, is being shut down this month - just ahead of the very convention it was built to cover. Bleeding Cool's Rich Johnston broke the news citing multiple senior industry sources, noting that Popverse staff declined to comment and ReedPop had not responded to requests for an official statement as of publication.

Launched in May 2022, Popverse spent roughly four and a half years serving as ReedPop's year-round digital companion to its convention portfolio, offering free coverage alongside a paid membership tier that included ad-free reading and extra con access perks. The editorial team included Chris Arrant, a former Bleeding Cool reporter with bylines at USA Today and Entertainment Weekly, as editor-in-chief, alongside Graeme McMillan, who first made a name for himself with the Fanboy Rampage blog.

No reason for the closure has been given publicly, and it's unclear yet what becomes of Popverse's archive or its NYCC and C2E2 coverage plans without a dedicated outlet in place. For a site that positioned itself as official companion coverage to two of comics' biggest conventions, losing it right before NYCC 2026 kicks off leaves a real gap in day-of reporting - one that outlets like Bleeding Cool, AIPT, and The Beat will likely be racing to fill.
