Rare Double-Page Captain America Storyboard Sells for $3,750 at Heritage Auctions

A piece of 1970s Marvel production history just changed hands: original storyboard art from 1974's Captain America #175, drawn by Sal Buscema and inked by Vince Colletta, sold for $3,750 at Heritage Auctions. The page captures Cap mid-fight with Moonstone, complete with a shield throw and a clean takedown of a foe who, on paper, outguns him.

What makes the piece unusual isn't the scene — it's the format. For a brief stretch in the mid-70s, Marvel had artists draw two story pages on a single physical board, a cost-cutting measure meant to stretch art budgets further. The policy didn't last long once creators pushed back on how it affected their page rates, which makes surviving double-page boards like this one a genuine rarity on the original art market.
