Mark Hamill Gets "Dangerous" as Darkwing Duck Reboot Lands at Disney+

Darkwing Duck is suiting back up. Disney+ has officially ordered a new animated series revival of the 1991 classic, with Mark Hamill voicing the caped, cape-swishing hero himself alongside Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack and Lizzy Caplan as an older Gosalyn Mallard. The project comes from Disney Television Animation with Point Grey Pictures producing, and original series creator Tad Stones is on board as a consultant.

The new take reportedly finds Darkwing stranded in an alternate world, stripped of any memory of his own heroic legacy, until a rebellious teen named Duckie tracks him down to pull him back into the fight against old foes like Negaduck and Megavolt. Dan Stevens, Lilimar, Tiffany Shepis, and Kathryn Newton round out the voice cast, with Sean Tretta and Borja Peña Gorostegui executive producing.

For the direct-market crowd, this is also a comic-shop story: Dynamite Entertainment currently holds the Darkwing Duck license and has been publishing the character's ongoing comics under its Disney partnership. A streaming series with this much star power behind it tends to be good news for a licensed book's visibility on the shelf, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Dynamite lean into variant covers tied to the announcement in the months ahead.
