IDW's Starship Godzilla Gets a Red Paint Job and a New Kaiju Threat
IDW is sending its fan-favorite kaiju crew back into space with Starship Godzilla: Invasion X #1, a five-issue follow-up hitting shelves October 14 (preorders close September 7). Writer Chris Gooch and artist Oliver Ono pick up right after the ship's first win over the Xilien fleet, only to find that victory came with consequences: a galactic invasion is spinning up, bounty hunters from the M Space Hunter Nebula are closing in, and the Xiliens are cooking up a new cosmic kaiju weapon.
The ship itself isn't sitting this one out unchanged, either — Starship Godzilla gets a visual overhaul for the new arc, including a bold red paint job and upgraded hardware, as the crew scrambles to gear up before the invasion hits. Gooch has teased "new kaiju, new upgrades, new planets," promising the sequel pushes the scale well past the original run.
Collectors have plenty to chase on the cover side: a Cover A from Ono himself, a Cover B from Joelle Jones, an "IDW Goes Dark" Cover C from Gavin Fullerton, and a 1:20 Movie Homage variant from Louie Joyce. It's part of IDW's ongoing "Kai-Sei Era" shared Godzilla universe, so expect ripple effects into the publisher's other kaiju titles down the line.
