DC's Compact Comics Line Adds Two Geoff Johns Classics: Superman: Brainiac and Green Lantern: Rebirth

DC's Compact Comics line keeps growing, with two more Geoff Johns-era classics confirmed for the format on June 1, 2027: Superman: Brainiac, collecting Johns and Gary Frank's Action Comics #866-870 alongside pages from Superman: New Krypton Special #1, and Green Lantern: Rebirth, gathering Johns' six-issue Rebirth miniseries with Ethan Van Sciver and Carlos Pacheco plus the six-issue "No Fear" arc that set it up. Both volumes will carry the line's standard $9.99 price tag.

It's a pointed pairing. Green Lantern: Rebirth is the book that pulled Hal Jordan back from his Parallax villain arc and relaunched the entire GL corner of the DC Universe, while Brainiac reintroduced the classic Superman foe as a planet-eating existential threat and fed directly into the New Krypton saga. Putting two of the more influential 2000s DCU event comics into the smaller, cheaper Compact trim suggests DC still sees them as reliable backlist sellers worth pushing at bookstores and mass retail, not just to longtime collectors who already own the originals.

The additions continue a pattern for the imprint, which has already folded in Vertigo heavyweights like Preacher, 100 Bullets, and Hellblazer. Compact Comics increasingly looks like DC's go-to way to keep its best-known runs perpetually in print in an accessible size and price point.
