Comics Community Mourns the Loss of Blackwood Co-Creator Andy Fish

The comics world is remembering Andy Fish, the Worcester, Massachusetts-based artist and educator who died September 5 at age 60 following a battle with two rare blood cancers, B-cell lymphoma and myelofibrosis. His wife, fellow comics creator Veronica Fish, shared news of his passing this week.

Fish trained under Will Eisner at the School of Visual Arts and Jack Kirby at RISD, and built a career that moved comfortably between original horror and licensed work. He co-created Blackwood and its follow-up Blackwood: The Mourning After with Evan Dorkin, and paired with Kelly Thompson on Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Sabrina: Something Wicked. His other credits include graphic novel adaptations of Kiersten White's Hide and Mister Magic, plus work on Werewolves of Wisconsin, Spider-Woman, Bloodshot, and Gumby.

Beyond his own output, Fish spent years teaching at MassArt and Emerson College and served as Director of Comic Books and Graphic Novels for Makimono Entertainment, shaping a generation of students headed into the industry. He's survived by Veronica and their three sons.
